Falls

Kimber perked her ears as she peered out of the thick shaded trees, looking out onto the open grassland. It was early morning, the sun barely starting to rise over the horizon, and the dew glittered on the green stems. Not a soul was stirring but her, and it caused a smile to cross the young mare’s face. With a happy little nicker, she trotted out into the open finally and lowered her head and started snatching bites of the wet stalks. Since seeing Askold, Kimber had not sought out anyone else’s company. But it had grown lonesome, to say the least, and her eyes wandered the open lands in hopes of spotting someone.


Sadly, the young mare didn’t spot anyone.


After she had grazed her fill, Kimber gave a huffed sigh of disappoint and left the Meadow for the Falls. She trudged along as if her feathered legs drug through sand, her head lowered and a frown pulling at her face. Why did the red stallion have to disappear again? Probably to go looking for his mother that he had left to find her. Or maybe even his father, Bjorn? Either way, it had left Kimber in a predicament she hated yet always found herself being in.


Her mother had left her, why wouldn’t everyone else?


Coming to the roaring, falling water, Kimber stopped at the edge of the pool and looked up. The mist that floated through the air dampened her face, though she did not take the opportunity to cry. Instead, she just lowered her head and took a drink from the chilling waters, debating what she should do now. How she should handle her future, if she was to ever have one where she wasn’t left behind.
