Morning light is peaking through the dense foliage of the trees that hover just above, a canopy of greenery and new life that had once been diminished by the cold winter season. Eyes of a golden brown hue shine as the sun bathes them in it’s light, and for a brief moment the owner of such expressionless eyes is somewhat illuminated against the shadowy background of which they have taken up residence; idly standing by, as if waiting for something.
She moves her head, the shadows taking back their precious claim and once again dimming the terribly bright world around her. The lands on which she walks are both old yet new, a vague memory of a small child frolicking about the waters of the falls entering her mind, the ghostly voice of the innocent child’s mother in the ears of the watchful woman who narrows her eyes on the cascading water and the horses that linger by its edges. It was a good memory, but why did Dara feel as though the whole farce was a lie? Had she truly been that happy as a child?
The sound of twigs crunching and snapping under heavy hooves brings her wild gaze from the past and to the forefront, the skin along her neck and chest rippling with unshed energy as she tries to focus on the direction this other being was coming from; they were far too close to Dara’s little spot, and she would see fit to set her teeth in their skin to keep them clear.
“Come out you demon,” She spits into the forest, the dark strands of her tail whipping against her legs as she shuffles on her long antsy legs, eager to give chase and eager to feel the warmth of blood on her tongue as it is spilled onto the fresh spring grass.
What a delightful welcome to spring that would be.
