when in doubt, use nettles

Sidika doubts she will ever tire of staring across these open dunes. Of watching the wide-open sky above circle and move in accordance with the heavens. This land calls to her heart in ways that no other place does, and she is thankful to have found a herd that suits her. It is not perfect in form, given that Sidika would gladly be rid of the boisterous Arabians and their constant influx of new visitors, but it is far preferable to anywhere else on these isles.

Her ear flicks toward the blood marked mare as she begins speaking, and a frown forms slowly on her charcoal lips, although she allows the mare to speak her bit. When she falls quiet again, her disquiet evident in the cool neutrality with which she speaks, Sidika allows the silence between them to deepen. She had long ago grown confident in the quiet, using it as a balm to soothe most worries that she had.

"No burden," she begins, her voice neutral and gaze still focused outward. "Reeds don't talk, and I grow tired of men." A smile ghosts across her lips and she turns momentarily to the speckled mare. In truth, it was not that she did not enjoy the visits from Maslakhat. The golden stallion's attention was a fascinating and exciting new development in her life, but it was also exhausting in its newness. Each time he touched her she was left to ponder the implications for days at a time, and her soul often craved the quiet of solitude in response. She liked him, but liking him felt like the kind of labor that yielded no results. Maslakhat had Merwerit to spend his days with, and she'd much rather encourage him in that direction.

Solitude was safer. But solitude did not speak back.

"If not happy, why stay?" She asks after a moment, her tone gently curious, and turns her attention back outward to the beautiful landscape. In truth, even though a thread of curiosity had wormed its way into her mind at the tone Sakhmet had answered her with, she didn't care enough to probe further into Sakhmet's relationship with the sons. They were young and bright and loud, and that was all Sidika needed to know.
