PERSEPHONE

The islands had grown busier as of late, bustling with life and competition as more and more horses chose to live their lives here. It had not escaped Persephone’s notice that, with the increasing population, another had chosen to make Luthien his home. As of yet, she knew nothing of her new neighbour – a scent caught here and there, maybe a glimpse on the horizon as she patrolled her borders, but he was a mystery.

Persephone always made an effort to get to know her nearest neighbours – she had only just begun to trust Rille, the latest arrival, and scoping out the new leader of the Savanna was the next task on her list. It seemed, however, that she had been beaten to it.

She answered the call inside her borders, swiftly locating the visitor a little way into the Forest’s depths, but found that Aponi had reached him first. Persephone approached them, emerging from the shadows of the trees with a rustle of leaves and the snap of fallen twigs underfoot.

Her dark eyes surveyed him carefully. He looked very young, but his scent and general appearance seemed to match the small snippets she had gleaned about Luthien’s new arrival. Was this boy the one who had staked his claim to a portion of the land here, or was he here with someone else?

She paused a few paces in front of him, trying to glean from his body language whether he was here to cause trouble or not. The way he announced himself suggested that he came peacefully, at least. She offered a nod of her head in greeting to the stranger, and a small smile of reassurance to Aponi.

“Greetings,” she began, glancing between her two companions. “I am Persephone, lead of the Forest. Can I help you?”
