FIRE BURNS WHERE IT FALLS

Maslakhat paced, the uncertain whicker from his Pearl fed his restlessness, though he knew that with Sidika’s experience, she would likely do just fine with bringing a new life into the world. After expertly freeing Merwerit from another strange adornment, he watched with amusement as young Geçersiz came bounding over the small hill of sand with it in his teeth.

He dropped the thing at his feet, and Maslakhat nodded at his assertion of her freedom. “Very good,” he commended. “Now, come, my oğul,” the golden bay stallion encouraged him. “We shall go to the sea and be rid of this useless trinket.”

Maslakhat, thankful for the distraction of this task, took up the item in his own teeth this time and ushered Geçersiz into a steady canter at his side, playfully tossing his head to encourage the colt to make the best use of his long, rangy legs. They made their way a short distance to the beach, and as soon as the sound of the ocean waves became apparent, the golden bay Akhal-Teke spat the breastband into the sand once again.

“Try to toss it,” he encouraged. “Like this,” he continued, bending down and taking the item and flinging it a short way in front of his son. “But into the ocean, so it may be gone for good.”

Once the item was properly discarded, Maslakhat beckoned his son to his side once more, knowing that surely Sidika would want him to return soon and that by now, he would undoubtedly have a new sibling to meet. Over the dunes they came, and once more did Maslakhat’s chest swell with pride at the sight of the healthy filly of gold that lay at his Merwerit’s side. With a determined surge, she was suddenly standing and a wide smile stretched across his lips as he drew closer.

Reaching down to first touch his velvet nose to his Merwerit, he offered her a soft nicker of appreciation for the plight he knew she had just experienced. “She is perfect. You have done exceptionally well,” he said gently, with appreciation. Looking back to Sidika, he nodded to her as well—to thank her for her expert guidance. Surely if she had not been present to aid her, the outcome might have been much different.
