An owl sounds interesting.

Maybe consider a trail camera that is movement activated. Then you can see just what's going on with your interesting night visitors.

I'm about to get mine set up, and am looking forward very much to see what critters are fooling around out there. As this seems to be a no-travel winter, I'm hoping this will provide some interesting home entertainment.
