I CANNOT BE ALTERED

The black colt listened raptly as Revelation explained his own history to him. It was fascinating to know that others grew up so differently than he did. Of course, Carbon knew his own upbringing was different than most, if only cause he didn't know a lot of colts that lost their mother so soon after being born. He knew he was at death's door at one point, but he managed to survive with the help of Berit and the rest of his family. There was nothing stopping him now. His ears pricked as the big stallion told him of his grandfather moving them to a new land that was far enough away that it would take days to get there. Carbon gasped with excitement. But apparently it wasn't so diverse. "Is there lots of places to run? I'm good at that." He grinned. When he asked about what it was like, the stallion chuckled and told him there was lots of trees and that he was nervous to go there. Carbon tilted his head. "Why would you be nervous? I'm sure the horses there will like you. What's not to like?" He smiled in reassurance.

When he told the stallion that he was allowed to explore more, Revelation told him it was different where he came from, that the older horses would watch the younger ones. He snorted softly. "My father is good at keeping up with his herd, no matter where they go, and he's been teaching me how to be careful." He held his head up proudly, but listened as the stallion said he was hesitant to go anywhere. Carbon's eyes widened as he looked over the stallion and chuckled a little. "I wouldn't think you'd be scared to go anywhere. Don't you know how big you are?" He would have reassured the stallion more but when he heard approaching hood beats, the black colt turned his head to see the golden paint stallion approaching. His ears flicked back warily but he stayed his ground for now, feeing more secure with Revelation beside him since he liked the stallion and felt he could trust him. As the paint began to speak, he pricked his ears to listen, glancing at Revelation to see his reactions.

The paint stallion seemed to be recruiting for his own herd. It was certainly something to think about for the future. He had no idea what he wanted to do, after all. The paint called himself Cullen and said he ran a bachelor herd. The idea surprised Carbon. So only stallions? at first, Cullen seemed to mostly be talking to Revelation. Carbon wondered if the big stallion would decide to go with him. Maybe this was the answer he was looking for? There didn't seem to be anything off or menacing about the bachelor leader. When his attention turned to Carbon himself, the black colt snorted softly and tilted his head, though his lips formed a scowl near the end and his brows furrowed. "Stealing mares? That's what you do there? I'm sure the mares don't approve. How would you feel if you were taken somewhere against your will?" Raising his head even though both stallions were still taller than him for the time, he stomped his fore hoof before looking to Revelation. "You can do what you want, but I know my mother wouldn't want me to learn from someone who believes in stealing. My father, either. He can teach me to fight, as can my brothers. And we will defend our herd and family against all who threaten them and their freedom." His gaze found Cullen again as he glared during the last statement, wanting the paint stallion to know exactly who he was talking about. Then he looked at Revelation.

"I hope you get to explore more and see all the places you want to see. If you ever come by the desert, feel free to look me up. You would be welcome there." Offering him a smile, he glared once again at Cullen before turning back for home. He no longer trusted the stallion and didn't feel it wise to hang around. He needed to tell his father about it. The colt didn't stop trotting till he was in the water and swimming back toward Salem, his head turning just enough to watch the paint stallion out of the corner of his eye as he swam ahead.
