Lace moves her head to look at him. The emotion on her face, the tears in her eyes, tells him something was gravely wrong. He knows there is no way she could be this upset over his father. Lace probably only knew the stallion only in the stories his twin told to her. There was no way this could be about Warsaw. Her ivory head drops as she struggles to speak. Ironclad waits patiently until the words were finally able to form out of her mouth.
”What?” He says instantly before the shock set in. He left us? He knew who she meant without the need to have her say his name. He wanted her to say his name just for clarification, but he understands that might be too painful for her. Lace was the reason Letavice had not been at his side this past year. It was her that stuck by his twin relentlessly no matter where he went. He didn’t know the extent of the influence this small mare had on his brother, but he knew there had been something special between them. Ironclad understands the bond a stallion shares with his mare more than anyone so he understands why her eyes were flooding with tears. Lace’s heart was bursting in her chest.
Her eyes are upon him again as her painful words reach his greying ears. "Of course not,” he whispers as her sobs intensify. Her mouth drops open as she apologizes. His head shakes before his neck youthful wraps around her own. Ironclad attempts to pull her closer into his warm chest with the quickening of his heart. ”It is not your fault.” He speaks calmly and slowly. ”I am here for you Lace and you can stay here for as long as you need. I will keep you safe and your heart warm. I will not leave you alone.” His hold over her tightens as his blue eyes race back and forth on the landscape behind her.
