The first of the herd to join them was Berit and Cain's heart felt lighter as she looked upon him with such open emotion that it about took his breath away. Unlike most of his guarded herd mates, Berit was all in on their relationship and it showed so readily in her eyes. She was a blessing to him when he needed it most by mothering Carbon and now as he and Vulcan grew to be strong young stallions, she had given him the gift of life in a new son, Enoch. His solid black son was beautiful and daring and Cain wouldn't have him any other way. As Enoch made his way over to him, Cain nickered softly and lowered his head to nuzzle his son, breathing in his familiar scent. One ear flicked over to hear Berit as she spoke to Harlequin, his lips twitching with humor. "You know I'm always available to watch the boys if you need a break. Your wish is always my command." He added with a little sly wink as his eyes twinkled for her.

His attention turned back to Enoch though as his son spoke, telling him about the other islands and asking if he could go, too. Cain scowled softly, hoping to soften the blow. "I'm afraid the trek is long and dangerous. You must build your strength and endurance up before taking to the water. Can't have the sea monsters making a meal out of you, can we? You're too important." He nudged his son softly. Meanwhile, Carbon had been grazing by the beaches when he heard Berit's call. "Hey, Vulcan, come on!" He called himself before barreling over the sand dunes where the others were gathering. Shaking his large black head as he got closer, he snorted and came over to press against Berit's side gently, rubbing his head on her shoulder with affection and nuzzling in her mane before he looked at the others. He pricked his ears at the conversation going on between his father and his younger brother. knowing well the restless feeling of wanting to go to other islands but being deemed too young.

When Chimeras arrived, Cain gave her a smile and a dip of his head in greeting before reaching out to exchange breaths. "Hello, Chimeras." He greeted her warmly, his brown eyes glittering. He wanted to get to know her better but was glad she had remained loyal to the herd. She made it obvious she only wanted what was best for the herd and he was grateful for that. Carbon gave her a big grin and came over to exchange breaths and nudge her shoulder. "Hey, Chimeras!" He would always remember her as his first friend outside of his immediate family. When another came toward them, Cain turned his head and his eyes softened upon seeing Melisma. He gave a nicker in greeting and reached out his muzzle to her as well, wanting to give his mares their space while also showing them all the affection they deserve. Carbon looked over and smiled at her, curiosity obvious in his golden eyes but he stayed where he was since he didn't really know her.

When the gray mare, Cerosi, arrived, Cain felt hope blossom in his chest, glad that she was still around. He was worried that she might go off to join her friend, Nasa, at the Harbor since he hadn't seen her around as much lately. At her whicker, he smiled and answered back softly, reaching out his muzzle to exchange breaths if she wanted. "Hello, Cerosi." He greeted her warmly. Carbon gave her a curious look as well and snorted, tossing his head before he looked to Harlequin. The black yearling didn't really know the arabian mare all that well but he had seen his father around her enough to know she was important to him. Cain recalled his greeting to the paint mare as he first arrived to this gathering, his chuckle when she had squealed at him and danced on her slender legs before admitting that Twinge didn't like to get wet. The idea made him laugh again. "Feeling dainty, are we?" He had teased her with a lift of his brow.

Harlequin had then admitted her daughter would probably be up for the idea if he brought it up and he had nodded in answer. "Maybe I'll do that. There's no rush, though." He had added on softly, more for Harlequin's sake than Twinge's. He could sense the worry in her eyes at the thought of their daughter going off on her own. Twinge had all the time in the world to be grown up and independent. He wouldn't rush it until Harlequin was comfortable with the idea. Then the mare had nipped at his muzzle and he had chuckled as he pulled back, aiming his own playful nip at her neck in return. She always was his fiesty mare. When the others started to gather, he listened as Harlequin greeted them before turning her attention to the full crowd. The subject at hand didn't really come as a surprise since it had been coming up more and more lately. Harlequin wanted to discuss the lead mare position. His ears flicked back and forth as he looked over the reactions of his herd.

What better way than to bring the herd together and discuss it as an open topic? Maybe then they could get some kind of relief. Harlequin made it known she didn't want the position herself before admitting they needed to come to some kind of decision. She said that he had given them a voice and his heart warmed at the idea that they appreciated the freedom he gave them to lead just as much as he did. He nodded in agreement when Harlequin's eyes found his own. Yes, he wanted them to use their voice. His ears pricked as Harlequin listed the traits of a lead mare before her gaze moved around, asking for opinions. He kept his silence for now, wanting this to be a discussion amongst the mares mostly. After all, the lead mare would be their guide. This needed to be their choice.
