She liked that Ironclad was coming to her with important issues about the herd already. It showed great promise for them in the future. It would definitely help with their business relationship, though she knew Ironclad was interested in more than that. For some reason, she found him more appealing now and was more okay with that than she thought she'd be. She'd seen the stallion romeo his way into the hearts of each of his mares. He had their undying loyalty once he charmed them, but she wasn't going to be as pliable. She was nobody's puppet and submission wasn't in her forte. She found Ironclad attractice and liked his ambition, but she had to find more to like about him. She knew that would come down to just getting to know him, something they'd never had a chance to do. Now was her time to remedy that. Even now, he smelled of other mares but Medusa forced herself to relax the bristles in her fur. They were never supposed to be exclusive. It didn't work that way in the horse world. He was a king and he needed heirs. He needed a lineage. That was how stallions created power for themselves, or so she'd been taught.

She did want to be a part of all that with him, but there was no rush, right? When she teased him about a spar, she saw the grin on his lips before he seemed to think better of it. It would probably be too hard a blow for her to beat him, anyway. Valka had never gone easy on her when she was sparring with the little red mare. She learned how to fight dirty. Oh well, perhaps another time. The tobiano mare definitely wasn't interested in the nursemaid part of the job. She figured she would lead the mares but she never planned on point out grass to them or watching the kids for them. She wasn't even a mother herself yet so why would she sign up to mother someone else's kids? That didn't sound fun in the slightest. She'd done plenty of playing with the older foals in paradise but the younger ones were never as much fun. They were so small and fragile, less likely to challenge her in a race or a tussle. Maybe some day her viewpoints would change, maybe when she had her own child at her heels, she would feel differently.

She was pleasantly surprised at the stallion's smile when she moved closer. She'd almost expected him to tense up or back away. He'd always seemed scared of her, after all. Maybe he was growing up, after all. When she pulled back to look at him, he almost seemed disappointed and she pricked her ears, curious. Of course, she knew the elephant in the room needed to be voiced. He had to be missing his father, especially now as he led his own herd. The stallion graciously thanked her and reached out, raising her own head as he said his queen must keep her head high. Smirking, she nipped at his cheek gently. "Except when it's busy holding her king's head high. I know it's hard to see now, Ironclad, but that's what I'll be for you. Your strength when you need it, just as I know you'll be mine when I'm running low." Her face sobered as she spoke, her lips forming a smile as she watched his face for a reaction. She wanted him to know she wasn't going into this thinking it was all about what she was given, not what she could give.

When he stepped back, it was her turn to look a little disappointed, the emotion flashing in her two toned eyes before she blinked it away and looked at him curiously. He looked sad, but also...inquisitive? When he next spoke, he seemed to be choosing his words carefully. Medusa swished her tail as she pricked her ears to listen just as carefully, her eyes questioning as he finally asked the question. Scowling thoughtfully, she shook her head. "No, I'm sorry. I only heard he passed, but I don't know the details. I assumed it was the injuries from the war or a recent battle. Was he sick?" Her curiosity got the better from her before she realized who they were talking about and read the sadness on his face. Her expression softened again as she spoke in a lower voice. "We don't have to talk about it if you don't want to." She figured maybe his death was too gruesome to think about. But why would he ask if she knew? Maybe there was a bad rumor going around that wasn't true. Anger made her chest tighten for a moment.

If someone was spreading rumors about Warsaw, she would stomp them into the dirt. Ironclad and his father's memory deserved better than that.
