He was glad he'd been able to secure his daughter's future, at least for now. More stallions may come next season but he would continue to beat them back as long as he could. That was his duty, after all. He didn't mind the wounds on his body. They would heal with time. He could add them to the scars that already littered his coat. As the water pulsated around him, the Vanner stallion let out a sigh and sunk deeper, submerging his neck and hissing again as the water stung his bite wound. He shook his neck, rinsing it good even around the sting. It was only then that he knew he was no longer alone. His eyes opened and he glanced up at the black mare, a smile tugging at his lips. Melisma had become quite fond to him and he adored that she was carrying his child for the spring. He couldn't wait to see the child they produced. She was going to be an excellent mother; he had no doubt.
The mare didn't hesitate to move into the water with him and he breathed in her sweet perfume as she got closer. He always felt better when he was surrounded by his herd, his family. She asked if he was alright and he buried his nose in her mane, nibbling gently at her. "I'll be alright, Melisma. Just a scratch." He tensed a little as she ran her muzzle down his neck, wincing when her soft lips got close to the bite wound. She looked so worried. He couldn't help but chuckle. "Don't worry about me. It'll take a lot more than this to take me down."
