a companion shortens the road

fearghas

Fearghas had not realized how much he missed this sort of quiet companionship until now, and a part of his soul ached for it. As much as he loved Aallotar, and he did, really, a part of him would always yearn for something different. Fearghas wanted that feeling of belonging that came with living with others of your own kind. Stallions that liked to roughhouse and share stories and make silly bets. Perhaps it was a childish wish, but he longed for the sweet summer days of his foal hood. Back when his largest concern had been over who really could jump the creek, and who was just bluffing.

Even with this talk of the ladies that they loved, it felt more like the sort of banter that he missed and a part of him would be forever grateful to Gael for reminding him that such a thing existed.

"I'd like ter meet her someday, if ye find her." He offers with a bittersweet grin. From what Gael had been saying, the likelihood of his mysterious lover appearing from the depths was unlikely, but the sentiment was the same. Clearly, the Queen of the Harpies had been a special woman.

A frown touches the spotted colt's lips briefly as Gael flinched in surprise, but it melted into a wan expression at Gael's assertion that he, too, knew of Cullen. Who these days didn't know of the palomino stallion and his crimes? It was astounding to Fearghas that he still managed to hold his power, despite the majority of the islands knowing what a sod he was.

At his next statement, a light enters Fearghas' eyes and he offers a brief smile. "Well, Gael, if yer path ever does take ye ter the Lagoon, I should be there til the end of this season, but I canna stay much past that." Nodding his head slightly, almost as if more to himself than Gael, he continues. "I hear the Savanna on Luthien is nice this time'a year though. Maybe I'll see ye around again."

His gaze rises to the direction of the Lagoon with a frown. Maybe he was giving up too soon. Maybe he should try to reach out to the men of the Lagoon. If pure strangers knew of Cullen's crimes, maybe the Lagoon boys could be convinced to go speak with others if they did not believe him. With a new hope that lightens his frown only marginally, he turns back to the black stallion. "I should be goin. But I hope ter see you around?"

The young spotted stallion backs a step, his gaze rueful as he looks toward Gael. As much as he would like to stay and cement their nebulous friendship, he still had a job to do. "I'll see ye around, Gael. Take care."

And with the last of his regret, the young stallion begins the lonely trek back to the Lagoon, where he might yet convince someone. Hell, he'd damn near'ed settle for anyone.
