do i look like a scoundrel to you?

Thoughts nearly as black as his own inky coat cloud his mind, doubts he had not known since he was a colt torn in the chaotic power struggles of his family. If anyone else had caused him such distress his amber eyes would have burned with hatred, and yet she completely disarmed him even when she was not present. There was no one else to blame in this moment but himself, as much as he desired otherwise. Still that ember of hope remains shrouded within his heart, hope that he had not entirely ruined the fragile thing which had seemed to be blooming between them.

He was not so enraptured in his own self doubt that he missed the sound of hoofbeats rapidly approaching his position. Even before he saw her his heart had leapt into his throat, some part of him knowing it could only be her as his body pivoted with the gravitational pull her mere presence elicited in his sizeable frame. Her flying form could not be missed, even in the darkest of nights as the moon seemed to be captured in the bleached strands of her tail as it flagged behind her. In mere moments she is upon him, so quickly that he had not even had time to process his surprise and the underlying fear that she would be as upset with him as he no doubt deserved, and yet in that moment he cannot find it in him to care.

As she stops before him, so close and yet still agonizingly far, he shifts a step forward even now desiring to be nearer to her slender body. The sound of his name on her lips rocked him to his core, a shiver running through ever inch of him as she continued to search for words which were not there. Whatever is was she was attempting to say seemingly forgotten as she finally closed the distance between them. Her warmth washed over the unnoticed chill which had crept into his bones, curling his thick neck so he can hold her as tightly as possible as he had craved for so long. “Kore.” Her name breathed like a prayer against the coppery darkness of her withers.

The way she pushes into him, as if he is an anchor in the storm and yet her mere presence has him feeling neatly weightless with mingling joy and relief. Such incredible ecstasy to finally cradle her petite form against the hard lines of his own and simple relief that she was not only okay but here with him by her own choice. For moments which well could have been hours he relished in her embrace, the darkness surrounding them as if sheltering some clandestine affair, as he inhaled the flowery fragrance which belonged so uniquely to her. The soft whisper of her words against his withers eliciting an electric current down his spine, though her words elicit a soft huff against the delicate curve he had been exploring where her neck met her shoulder. “You should know nothing could keep me from you for long.” He angles his head just enough to allow his golden eyes to drink in the sight of her delicate face, a smile tinging the corners of his lips. “And that nothing ever shall again.” Despite the lightness of his words there is an serious undercurrent which could not be denied In the way his eyes shined in the dim light. He would burn the world to the ground before he allowed them to be parted by anyone other than herself.
