The sun was making its daily journey through the sky, climbing toward its peak before it fell again. Spreading its warmth to anything it could touch. It did not care whether it would be accepted or not. There was no disdain at bugs scurrying for cover under damp logs. Similarly, there was no joy conjured from the mare basking in what she saw as a gift. In this aspect, that same mare envied the sun. How freeing it must be to not worry over others' opinions. Even with this in mind, she knew. The sun was not free. The great mare in the sky was shackled by fate to climb and fall day after day.

She was saddened by the thought each time it demanded attention. A short lived, but never entirely forgotten, kind of sadness. It was easy to overcome by enjoying the warmth provided. Every muscle in her body had relaxed at its touch. Her salted coat had fluffed outward in an attempt to embrace as much of this gift as possible. The copper in her mane and tail became aflame in the light, dancing for the gods. One hip had cocked higher than the other as her weight shifted, bending every angle of her left hind leg. Her bottom lip drooped into view, revealing the tender pink of her skin.

Peace incarnate. That's what she seemed. With nothing but her tail stirring to swat the pests away. However, her mind had been swallowed in a thick mud. The kind that hooves struggled to cross. Every thought made this wallow seem to grow wider. It was threatening to suck her into a kind of despair she had not felt in a long time. The kind made each heart beat feel painful, and every task weigh more each day. Until even the walk to quench her thirst would seem too daunting. If she did not find a solution to her worries soon, the suction may grow to strong to escape.
