Having delivered Dhaniya to her proper ‘brother’, so to speak, he returns to find Ayyuce in much the same place as she had often occupied. It has of course grown late in his time needed to travel to and from Rigel, but he is no spring chicken to long distances and still making great time. Her sipping from the pool is such a peaceful sight that he does not intrude. He is no romantic like his brother Rigel, no poet or desirable prince like Antares, and no brawny and brave man like Atair - but he knew a beautiful woman when he saw her and he had no qualms at all about taking a moment out of his day to appreciate the sensation that came from having that beautiful woman drinking from the oasis that made up his home.
Before he can properly regain himself out of his gazing, she rises gracefully from her drinking and sets off across the sands without him. She does not go far, but still he picks up a swifter pace to come to her side before she might disappear from view.
What he finds is that she ceases her progress at the top of one of the guardian dunes and stars out across what there was to explore. "Jamila." She says, almost like a prayer or a blessing or a sudden word of awe. It makes him look up, beyond her, for the first time since he’d returned to his end of their portion of the Dunes.
His flirtation is so much lighter than the gravity of his thoughts and he reveals nothing of that slight sliver of jealousy here. Ayyuce was a guest and his mother had raised a Man of Shu, but also managed to raise him right regarding women.
