She couldn’t sleep. Clarity wanders the Peak aimlessly as her thoughts run wild in her head. Her firstborn had decided to leave home and join a stallion on another island. Salem, she had called it. Clarity has never been to Salem, but her young daughter had done well to describe it to her. A place of endless sand with hardly any plants and no trees. It didn’t sound appealing to her, but obviously this Kamekaze character she was following was worth it. Her daughter seemed star struck about the stallion. Clarity made a mental note to make the journey out to meet the stallion some day soon. For now, it was too late and she needed to sleep.
She tries again to fall asleep, but it never comes. A deep sigh rolls off her tongue as she finally decides the Peak was too stuffy. Perhaps it was the memories of birthing her children here or all the souls she has lost to the shadows. Whatever it was, she needed some time away. The piebald mare leaves the comfort of her home and travels to the meadow. It wasn’t far away, close enough for her to run home if there was trouble, but far enough to get her mind in a different place. The mare journeys the wide-open valley until a dark creature catches her eye.
It was hard to distinguish the stallion from the dark shadows. Only the moon’s light gives him away as she approaches with a nicker. ”Couldn’t sleep either?” She asks the stranger with a smile. Her two-toned tail flips behind her as she studies the older stallion. Maybe she should have learned by now not to causally come to unknown stallions. Loneliness was a hard thing to fight off.
