i'll get under your skin

The brown mare's next words hinted at a closer relationship with the bay stallion who led the Dunes than she had with him herself and Corona felt herself perk up even more with curiosity. He'd already made quite the impression on Shenzi, apparently. She smiled, wondering what the future would bring for them. She gave a nod of acknowledgement. "Then I'm glad for his persistence. I hope he doesn't let you down." And she meant it genuinely, having enjoyed the mare's company. She wanted to keep her around for a while so that meant Maslakhat behaving himself and keeping her trust in him intact. When she chose to give her history, the barb mare was quiet and listened well before agreeing that she would have run, too. Corona smiled in answer. She managed to bring laughter to the mare when she teased about fitting her in her busy schedule, and the mare said she owed her one.

Corona responded with a sassy wink. "Then I guess I'll have to seek out your company again some time, to let you pay me back." She was already looking forward to another conversation with the mare. Maybe it was easier to make friends here. When she told the mare about the Dunes and how they felt like home, the mare agreed, saying it where they belonged. The words resonated with her and and Corona dipped her head. "You speak the truth, Shenzi." Everything the mare said lifted her heart and made her skin shiver with eagerness. Yes, her soul definitely agreed with this place. The mare was just about to look sad again when luckily the healer and her young apprentice appeared, successfully distracting them both.

Corona pricked her ears and listened attentively as Shenzi greeted the healer and told her what happened. When she said the lioness was no longer a threat, the gray mare's eyes widened in shock and awe. So she killed a predator. Definitely a good friend to have.

Her attention wavered to the colt as he spoke to her, giving him her full attention as her eyes sparkled with delight. She did love playing with foals in her former herd. It was good to know young life thrived here as well. He puffed up all proud when she asked if he was a healer and told her that he was his mother's apprentice. Corona smiled in approval. "I bet you're catching on quickly, though. You'll be running the show in no time." She encouraged him. When he looked at his mother, the love and admiration he had for her was obvious in his eyes and Corona had the flitting notion of being a mother herself, wondering if she'd ever have a son or daughter look at her like that.

But quickly as it came, she shrugged the thought away, focusing back on the colt as he said he also helped his father, Maslakhat. She snorted softly and nodded. "Yes, I've met him before. He's quite the guy. Needs more action in his life, though. You should offer to race him as much as possible." She smirked, already picturing the colt coaxing the bay stallion to run with him. Maslakhat would have her to blame for it, too. She couldn't wait to see it.

Meanwhile, she turned her attention back to Sidika and Shenzi to make sure things were going to be okay with her new friend. Sidika told her to let the wounds dry and when the slender mare came out of the water, Gecersiz was quick to go to her. Corona pricked her ears in interest as the colt asked what she needed, dutifully waiting for direction. She smiled in assurance as the mare looked almost sheepish about it, listening as she told her son what to get before apologizing. The gray mare snorted softly and shook her head. "It's alright. He's very forthcoming and intelligent for his age. He'll make a fine stallion with that determined mind." She smiled, hoping to gain the mare's friendship as well.

The palomino turned away after a moment to look for plants herself and Corona couldn't help but watch in wonder. "How did you know you wanted to be a healer, if you don't mind me asking? Were you taught as a filly or did you just take to it naturally?"
