She still felt like she hadn't had a chance to meet much more of the herd members besides Kvothe and the young mare planned to remedy that as soon as possible. Now that she'd brought another mare into the Inlet, she hoped to be able to reach out more and get to know the others. They needed to know where they all stood with each other, anyway. As birthing season was upon them, Medusa knew she could at least be some help in this area. She was no healer or anything but since she wasn't carrying herself, she could help the other expectant mothers if they needed help. She wasn't quite sure how she felt about children yet, but she knew that she would have them some day and any born in the Inlet was considered under her and Ironclad's protection. She told Kvothe as much and she planned to stick by that. She would put herself between any of the Inlet members and danger, without hesitation.

The painted mare patrolled the Inlet, wondering where she might run into another herd member when she heard the grunts and sounds of discomfort. Curious and cautious, she moved forward slowly, not wanting to spook someone but wanting to get a good look before she walked in on whatever was going on. When she saw the speckled mare on the ground, she knew right away what was happening. She had watched her own mother give birth to her little brother Loupgaru, after all. She knew what birthing looked like. So instead of disturbing the mare since she didn't know Medusa and probably wouldn't feel comfort with her nearby, Medusa chose to stand sentinel at a short distance, watching their surroundings while keeping herself out of the mare's way.

Once things had quieted down, she peered through the branches. It looked like the mare had a heathy colt. She smiled and her ears pricked, ready to announce herself and congratulate the mare when a new sound hit her ears. Wolves. Instantly, the bay dun's hair stood on end and her tail gave an angry swish as she flared her nostrils and looked around. She couldn't see them, but that didn't meant they weren't there. The new mother would be vulnerable and weak. Gnashing her teeth in warning to the unseen threat, Medusa ficked an ear when a sudden scream burst out from behind her. Fearing the mare already had wolves attacking, Medusa burst out of cover, looking around with ears pinned and lips curled. Once she figured out the mare was in no immediate danger though, she lowered her head and gave a gentle nicker, hoping she hadn't scared her or her son too much in her outburst.

"I'm sorry, I heard the scream and thought the worst...." Before she could finish, she noticed the mare looking in a new direction and her own two toned eyes followed suit. When she saw the skinny predator, Medusa gave a defiant scream and stomped a front hoof in warning to the creature. Letting out a rattling snort, she began to pace, making an invisible wall between the mare and foal and the wolf. Stopping to paw the ground and gnash her teeth in the air, the young mare made as if to lunge at the wolf, trying to bluff and scare him off. Maybe if it knew it would have more than a tired mother and newborn to deal with, it would get the memo and leave with any others that were with it. If it dared to come closer, she wouldn't hesitate to charge and try to take a chunk out of its scruff, though. Her teeth were already hungry for blood as she kept her ears flicking alertly in case others decided to make themselves known.
