TuRn YoU tO sToNe Valka

As spring came to the Inlet and new life began to blossom in the herd lands, Medusa found herself feeling restless and her gaze was drawn toward the borders. She felt like things were starting to look up for her, but she needed to lean on someone, at least a little. Ironclad and her were still rocky and awkward and she hated that. She wished he would just open up and talk to her without all the hesitation, but wondered if only time would heal that. At least, he'd challenged her to a spar this season. That let Medusa knew he was at least giving her a chance to prove she was his equal in fighting prowess and that would do just fine. She'd been sparring with Valka since she was a yearling, after all. Bloodshed was the fun part for her.

She'd also started reaching out to the other herd members. She felt close to one mare so far, Kvothe. The gentle Fresian mare called to the protective nature in her and she wanted to wrap the mare up and protect her from the world. It felt nice to be needed. She was working on the other herd members and had even raided a mare from another island. It wasn't her go-to, but the mare was miserable in her current herd and yet too stubborn to leave because of the water, of all things. Medusa felt like she was doing her a favor by making her leave when the mare refused to budge. It was good experience for her, as well, so she felt accomplished at the end of it when the mare finally came with her to the Inlet. From there, she could choose her own fate, but at least Medusa had gotten her away from that desolute place where no one even bothered to answer her cries for help.

Now, Medusa felt her own consciousness crying out for reassurance or guidance, and she instantly thought of the only mare besides her mother she felt close to and looked up to. Valka was her mentor, but she was also her best friend, her confidante. She knew she could trust her. She had meant every word when she promised the red mare she would always be welcome in the Inlet, but besides their short run-in around that rotting corpse, Medusa hadn't seen her friend in months, and she wanted to remedy that. She wouldn't let their friendship fade out of lack of effort, not if she could help it. So with a toss of her head, the bay dun galloped across the Inlet until she could smell her friend's scent. Her territory was close. She let out a whinny, wondering which direction she could turn in that would take her to the pony leader. Eagerness made her blue and brown eyes gitter as her ears swiveled alertly, waiting for an answer.
