The mare looked so unprepared for this that Monster's heart went out to her. She stared at the filly like she was an alien, seeing the blood and gore of birth as another child might see it. So innocent, so unexperienced. She was sure the mare felt the instinct to go to the child and help it, yet her hooves were frozen in her own fear. Her mind was conquering her instinct, at least for now. Monster needed to override that. She hadn't meant to scare the mare but should have known she was too fixated on the newborn to hear her approach. When she spoke, the mare all but jumped into the jungle and the whine that left her lips had Monster's chest tightening with new emotion. She told her she could do this and the mare blinked at her, asking what she could do and it was all the painted mare could do not to roll her eyes and stomp a hoof in impatience. She had to settle herself since it wouldn't do anyone any good for her to make it urgent, even though she felt it was getting there.

She needed to find whatever patience she could muster. Instead, she took a deep breath and nudged her head toward the filly. "I know you're scared but she needs her mother. She needs that birthing sac gone so she can move more freely and stand. She needs to be cleaned and nursed." She made her voice gentle, hoping to coax the mare into action. The filly was strong, at least, managing to almost completely get herself out of the birthing sac, but she was still trapped. The squeals coming from her mouth should have illicited some sort of response from the mare but instead she only looked terrified of her. When she reached out to touch the filly, Monster smiled. "That's it, bond with her." She whispered almost to herself more than anything. But then the mare jumped back again. It was a work in progress.

When the mare looked at her, she was pleading for help and Monster could only hope she would be able to give the help she needed. She took another slow breath and offered a gentle smile. "You care for her and show her the world is a beautiful place. It has its darkness, as you know, but that's what makes the light that much brighter." She searched the mare's gaze for a moment. "Caring for her might might help heal you as well."
