will you come to find me?

finch
Finch

Finch had barely begun to open her eyes to the morning sun when the giant stallion had come for her. At first she had felt the excitement making her young heart race, especially since a sister was going. But she found it odd how her mother would not look at her and didn’t even wish her a goodbye. Was this a punishment? Had she done wrong? Confusion was washed away with a new wave of excitement coupled with fear when they had moved off into the cold water. A squeal had escaped her young lips at the shock of it, never having felt such a harsh caress against her skin, but that was her only complaint. Finch proved to be brave along the journey, even as her heart raced with a rising fear of falling beneath the dark waters and never rising again.

When they made landfall, Finch found her legs would not support her. They wobbled beneath her weight until she collapsed into a heap upon the soft shore. But despite her position of vulnerability, she looked out across the strange land and couldn’t help but feel sleepy with the warm sun upon her back. It was nice here; the ground was soft and made a great place for a nap. Finch found her eyes getting heavy until her sister excused herself and the stallion spoke to her. Thus far she had been quiet, but she wasn’t mute, as much as she pretended to be.

“Sleepy.” she admitted and looked off the way Halcyon had gone. “Can I nap with her?” Finch asked, turning her soft round eyes back up to the stallion that she thought to be her sire. Everyone else called him Dad in some form or another, Finch did not know she was any different.
