The giggle was so full of light and innocence that it seemed to breathe new life into the Vanner stallion. He inhaled sharply, his eyes twinkling with intrigue as she told him matter-of-factly that she was supposed to see him this evening. He squinted up at the bright sun overhead before turning his brown gaze back to her with a light snort. He dipped his head. "My apologies then, miss, that I came too soon. Shall I leave and come back?" His lips twitched at the corners, betraying his amusement as he waited to see if she would send him away or indulge him a little further.

When he spoke of protecting others, she seemed so confident when she said that he could, bringing his own ears to lean foward almost hungrily, as if she could make the very words true by saying them. He wanted to question it, to ask how she could know such a thing when they'd only just met, yet something told him that even if she could answer him, it probably wouldn't make sense. He felt his body relax in acceptance, instead. He smiled at her. "I only wish I could believe as assuredly as you do." He said the words almost in a question, like she could teach him how to, though he knew that was empty dreams. He had failed others so many times that it was hard to see past all that to the triumphs, sometimes.

She went on to tell him that he did so even now, that he was like the oak above her. His eyes softened. "If only my nature were as steadfast as the oak, instead of the flimsy thing it has been in the past before it became what it is, now." He wasn't usually so upfront about his change in nature. He had come so far to prove how different he could be that he didn't like others to know what he had once been. Yet somehow he couldn't help but open himself to the golden mare, like she could already read him and there was nothing he could hide from her anyway.

When he asked after her own nature, she seemed thoughtful for a moment before responding. The answer made his smile widen as he lifted his head a little and let out a breath before nodding. "I can see that. You do shine in your own kind of light. It suits you." Glancing around for a moment, he rested a back hoof in contemplation as he turnd his patient gaze back to her. "And where should the wind blow you once you're done here? Do you have a destination in mind?"
