the warmth of her small but stout figure against his chest and shoulder is fulfilling. he is no longer just a colt with plans to travel and find his purpose in this world, but a stallion who has grasped at the future, knowing he needed something more, and found real promise. promise that his worth, his value on this earth, could be in moments like these.

faldne lets her disagreement with his words spill into the air unapologetically, but without animosity. as if she doesn’t necessarily want him to believe them as much as she does. he does not know what she faces, but he also knows that perhaps the right choice just hasn’t presented itself yet. he can hope for that at least, for her sake.

the edge of the white patch running along her shoulder attracts him and so his pink-brown lips trace that fissure of color steadily, pausing occasionally move a stray lock of tumbling mane. his brown ears flick absently for a moment but lock forward as she speaks again with warmth. he had not believed she would stand here beside him forever, nor had he hoped at first, that she would, but there is a finality to her next admission causes him to tense.

it is good then, that she steers their conversation elsewhere, because the golden-chocolate stallion wonders if he could bear to think about the end of their hollowed out moment together. his neck arches around, smiling at her glance, and he considers her question obediently.

”it was warm there. all the time, almost. and i loved that. i get so cold sometimes…” it feels like a silly admission, but evandr offers it anyway. it was the first thing he could really think of, but the more he considers her question the easier it is to think of the other things. he turns his head away from her, letting his whiskered chin rest again in the curve of her back as he remembers. ”i loved the sun, but it was my family that was hard to leave. they were so good to me… i have been treated with kindness all my life, Faldne. and i thought i outgrew it…. “ the realization hits him then, that he had been wrong. perhaps it wasn’t that he had outgrown his home, his family… he just realized that he had felt called elsewhere to bring that kindness with him, to share it with those who may not have experienced it.
