He knew he couldn't expect his daughters and sons to hang around the Desert forever. His daughters would want mates of their own, a family of their own, a new herd to get to know and bond with. They would always have a home here in the Desert but they needed to get out in the world and see what else there was to see. Cain wouldn't have it any other way, even if it was bitter sweet. He would never try to promise his daughters away or use them to build alliances. Something that took their choice away wasn't worth it to him. He already hated that he had to send a son to the Lagoon because that big lug of a stallion beat him. At least Carbon had high spirits about it. Nothing could keep the young stallion down. He was high on life and even though he knew about the Lagoon and how some of the stallions were, he was sure he could find the good in it. Cain only hoped he was right.

Twinge leaned against him as he played in her mane and breathed in her scent, wanting to memorize it as if it were the last time he'd ever have it. He hoped that wasn't the case but he never wanted his daughter to feel obligated to come here. Everything had to be her choice. There was no other way. She assured him she wasn't going to leave forever and he smiled. "I hope not. I might forget what you look like." He added with a little smirk. As she looked out over the dunes, he followed her gaze with a sigh.

He smiled wider as she talked about everything she wanted to see. "And I hope you get to see it all then some. Remember to come back and tell me all about the view from up there."
