She tucked her nose to her narrow, golden chest, bashful and delighted that her new companion was somewhat playful in nature, like her. To find another who could speak the same language, however subtly, was always a delight. At his quip, she opened one amber eye as her lips pulled into a small smile.

“You are precisely where you need to be,” she offered, her voice subdued, but still warm and rich and sweet like fresh honey in the sun. He continued, offering insight as to how he had grown into the strong sort he seemed today. She opened her eyes fully as he edged closer to her, mirroring his interest with forward-pressed ears of her own—rapt with interest at his story.

“When the oak is young it too is flimsy—no great and towering tree was ever born as such—we all start as saplings,” Irshi assured him confidently. “All it takes is time, and just enough water and light of course,” she added. She flicked her white tail as he commended her and her own light, her smile widening. His next question however puzzled her. It was akin to asking the dandelion if it knew where it would land and take root. She snorted quizzically, but was happy to oblige him with an answer.

“All I know is that wherever I land, it will be right and true,” Irshi said confidently. “Though I have never been known to stay in the same place for long."

She was no dandelion, after all--more like a firefly, glowing rhythmically and intermittently as the light of dusk burned steadily at the edges of the boundless horizon.
