Trumpeter Swan - Matthiasville

Around noon today there was a Trumpeter Swan on the south branch of the Muskoka River adjacent to Matthiasville Rd. It didn't have any wing tags, but it certainly was used to people. When we stopped the car to get a better look, the swan immediately swam towards the car. When I got out of the car, the swan climbed up onto a bit of ice at the edge of the river and seemed to be waiting for a food handout...it went after a tossed peanut, which was the only "bird food" we had with us.

There were also two male Hooded Mergansers and a male Common Merganser along that section of the river. (note: the bridge at the west end is still closed, so only access is from the east end of Matthiasville Rd.)
