bacardi

surrounded by darkness yet enfolded in light

Bacardi had never expected Valka to be so honest with him. To tell him of her troubles and thoughts so openly. It troubled him that she thought Solomon would command a child from her, and wondered if she would have allowed that or not? She had already given Solomon one son as she claimed, surely the stallion could not be so greedy? But without having officially met the Tinuvel King, Bacardi can only speculate, knowing full well the evils that corrupt the world.

“I do not think you’re breed is meant to die out as you say.” Bacardi said thoughtfully, only briefly looking away as he let his mind gather how he wanted to say what was on his mind. If he said it wrong, Valka might take it the wrong way. And they had found such peace and honesty standing here together that he did not want to break it.

“Perhaps instead of looking outward, you should look inward.” Bacardi finally said. His eyes again finding the mare, hoping she could see that he spoke in the same honesty that she had done. Not out of self motivation or greed. “You had hoped a victor would make the choice for you with power, yes? But what power does that give you? And should they have won, would you once again lose the child that you now hope for?”

“Do not think I would turn down what I fought for, should I have won. And bare in mind, also, what you would not eventually lose should I have taken that victory.” Bacardi confessed. Though he was raised with morals as he truthfully told her, he would also not deny what she might have wanted from him. But Bacardi does not suspect that she will want anything more from him aside from being a loyal Hersir. “I hope you find whatever it is that you are looking for, Valka. You have given us a good life here, and deserve the same for yourself.”

With the adrenaline now completely burned away, and the pain still throbbing through his shoulder, Bacardi felt a dump of exhaustion that was nearly smothering. He wanted nothing more than to rest. So, reaching out his dark muzzle once more, he pressed it to the mare’s fuzzy cheek in a comforting, but parting touch. As he pulled away after a few moments, he turned and began hobbling his way inland towards where Soraya and his child was safely tucked away.
