There are some things you can only learn in a storm .

Presti laughed gaily as she danced around her mother. The little foal had never known anything different. She didn't know that other's mothers could see. She didn't know that normally horses grew up in herds, with others. But she wasn't lonely. She had the sea, the sky, the land around her. She kicked up the sand as she ran, shaking her coat as the grains landed softly on her back.
Her ears perked up as she heard her mother call, and she trotted closer to her mother obediently. There was no reason not to after all. Her mother was her entire world, and she couldn't imagine not being by her side.

Cerauno looked over the ocean from a ridge. He closed his eyes, listening to the quiet shushing of the water below. It was time. He knew he had missed the birth. There was no way he could have made it though. Business on the other side of the island had kept him busy, and he had a few new scars to show for it. Funny things scars. The ones from the fire had traumatized him. He had been so self-conscious about them, but that changed when he had met Leilyn. She couldn't see his scars, yet she had wanted him anyways. It had only started as one night, but then it had become more. Her belly had swelled with a foal, and it turns out that was the only thing needed to unlock more ranges of emotion than he had ever felt.
He headed down the ridge, and started to cross the sea. The waters were calm during the day. After all, the moon wasn't here to tug them around like two foals over a plaything. The water soothed his burns but stung the tender scars, though he barely felt it. He was headed home.
