Lockdowns, Covid, Rats and unintended consequences

I live two blocks north of the downtown area in Barrie, just north of the library.
I looked out my front window and noticed a Crow scavenging something in the middle of the road. I couldn't quite figure out what it was eating and upon investigating found a roadkilled Norway Rat.
Rats aren't common around here.
I saw one in a neighbours driveway three years ago. It had apparently just fell over dead and was lying on it's side, showing no signs of a violent death. I have never seen a live one around here.
It is disturbing to know rats are around. Where did it come from and are there others?
Then I saw a recent You Tube video where Rats were moving from downtown areas into the suburbs. Closed restaurants meant a serious drop in the Rats food supply and competition was driving them into new areas.
Is it happening here? Probably.
Anyone else seeing more Norway Rats?
