A friend of my niece engaged me in a political discussion (She was an anti-Trumpster) and told me we were a democracy. She was also against the Electoral College. She was surprised when I told her we were not a democracy, but a republic. I then explained to her what a republic was, that the only true democracy was in Ancient Greece, that Rome was the first republic, how the Electoral College came into being as a compromise with the smaller States having a fair share in electing the president, and that its elimination would have to come about only with a Constitutional amendment, which would never pass. My explanation silenced her. She is a college graduate. I'm always intrigued by the ignorance of the Lefties when it comes to government. Replies:
