Turtles, Frogs, and a Beaver

This morning there were many Painted Turtles out sunning themselves at the Bracebridge Ponds. A large Snapping Turtle was in the wet ditch by cell 4 with two small Painted Turtles sitting on its back. We thought it must be dead, but as we got closer it completely submerged. When it resurfaced, one of the Painted Turtles climbed back up onto the Snapper's shell again. There were several Spring Peepers calling and some Wood Frogs "quacking" at the east end of the Chickadee Trail.

A Beaver was hanging around the south end of cell 2 at the Bracebridge Ponds. It gave its tail a big smack on the water when we walked past. A Muskrat was feeding in the "new" beaver pond along the Chickadee Trail...others reported seeing a Beaver there. There are still Beavers living at Henry Marsh although we didn't see one today - an earlier breach in their dam has been repaired with fresh mud and branches.
