Re(1): Navy destroyer USS Johnston, sunk during World War II in 1944, found after 'deepest wreck dive in history'

I had the privilege of meeting Ernie's Mom at her home in Long Breach Ca. Ernie, Stan Houghton and Dave Hess an myself had a joyous after cruise round trip of the USA by car in the summer of 53. Many life long memories remain from the adventure! There is a great book bout the battle where "Chief" and the Johnson went down with guns blazing. Badly wounded His Dad ended up shouting steering orders through a shell hole in the fan tail to a crew which was trying to steer the rudder by hand.Such valor! There is (or was) a room in Bancroft Hall dedicated to Chief Evans.
