Meadow

The Desert was filled with grief once again as the news of Berit's passing spread and the young stallion found himself seeking solitude more. He offered condolences where he could but he could see his father wanted to be left alone so he tried to stay out his hair. He knew the mare had meant a lot to him and the fact that Cain could do nothing to stop her death was gnawing at the lead stallion more than he'd like anyone else to know. Akello could see the pain so obvious on his features, so he gave the stallion what he needed: space. Meanwhile, he felt like he needed to get out Salem so he took to the water and ended up on the Crossing.

The thought crossed his mind to go visit his brother, Carbon, at the Lagoon and see how he was doing, but the swirling fog that greeted him on the shore line paused those thoughts for the moment as he carefully maneuvered his way into the meadow. He knew that's where he had ended up, but squinting his eyes through the dense wall of white was getting him nowhere. Sighing, the stallion picked his way through the dry grass, trying to find higher ground and that's when he saw the silhouette. Stopping, he tried to make out at first whether it was a horse or something else entirely. His nostrils flared, tasting the air and and it was enough to tell him it was indeed equine and a mare, but he couldn't tell much more than that through the thick fog.

He pricked his ears, knowing she couldn't see his open demeanor very well but maybe his voice would do. "Hello, I'm Akello. Mind if I join you?" He waited patiently for an answer, not wanting to move a muscle in case she bolted. Somehow he felt so isolated in all this fog, like they were walled off from the rest of the world and were the only two living beings. It felt surreal and he wanted to see where it went from here.
