The call he heard echoing through the Desert was familiar and surprising, but it was a pleasant surprise, none the less. It had been too long since the Vanner stallion had laid eyes on Nasa and a smile tugged at his lips at the thought of seeing her again. Their pasts with humans might have been as different as rain and sun, but just the fact that she knew what a human was made her have more in common with him than most of the other island horses. Plus she'd been a refreshing dose of refined fire when she'd stayed in the Desert before. She had come with Cerosi from the Common and he remembered well the confidence she gave the younger gray mare when they first arrived to Salem.

They had stuck together thick as thieves so when Nasa had left to take over the Harbor, Cain was sure Cerosi would follow behind her. He was glad she didn't, though. Now he'd had more time to get to know the sweet gray mare and hopefully she would be calling the Desert home for many years yet.

Cain heard Nasa lost the Harbor and he was sad to hear it. When he didn't hear from her, he assumed she'd either decided to stay and call it home anyway or had gone somewhere else to find her happiness. He could only wonder as he trotted across the sandy dunes toward her call why she had come back now. Was it just to visit or for something more permanent? He would welcome her back with open arms, of course. He had found a kinship in the pretty Arabian mare when she told him about her history with humans. Hers was much kinder to her, but Cain was glad for it because she was a gentle soul and deserved all the kindness. Maybe it was what had shaped her into who she was today. She had been spared the abuse that he got and his past was dark because of it.

Finally, his brown gaze picked out the dark silhouette against the rising sun and he gave a welcoming nicker as he trotted closer. Ears pricked and tail lifted happily, the Gypsy stallion tossed his head and smile, slowing to stop a few feet away and offer his muzzle in greeting. "It's great to see you again, Nasa. Are you here to see Cerosi?" He wondered if she knew her friend was a mother now, first to Ironclad's child from last year and hopefully, she would soon be rounding with the child she had honored him with this past Fall. He remembered being humbled by her decision to come to him. He hadn't expected her to want a child again so soon after her fearful experience with her first. He wouldn't have judged her. Instead, she came to find him and he made sure she was okay with the decision before he moved any further. Now only time would tell if he was to be a father this coming spring.
