She hated the apologetic that grimace that crossed sweet Arael's face, knowing her first words must have put it there. Her own brow creased, unsure how to make it better. She certainly didn't want the mare to think her company was unwelcome. At her reply about being small and easy to miss, Medusa was quick to shake her head with a little smile. "I'm afraid it's more out of my head being too far up in the clouds at the moment. I just wasn't paying attention to my surroundings, and I should know better. You did nothing wrong." She softened her words, wanting the mare to be assured she was welcome company, despite her current mood.

The mare then offered an excuse for her sourness, blaming the season and the tobiano thought of her more recent predicament with Ironclad and couldn't help but chuckle a little. "Autumn certainly has a way of doing that." She agreed, her smile widening a little as she met Arael's gaze again. When the mare asked if she would like to share why, the young Queen felt herself tense at first, unsure if she would be considered weak for her thoughts. She was taught to stand firm and strong for her herd, not wallow like this. But maybe it would help them bond, for her to share. She looked into Arael's sweet forgiving gaze and only saw someone she wanted as a friend, a sister.

Finally, she made a decision and nodded, a thoughtful scowl on her lips for a moment before she took a breath. "I....I wasn't brought here because of my attraction to Ironclad. You could say we had rough beginnings. I was betrothed to him by my parents as a yearling. I didn't even meet him till right before I was escorted here by my father." She paused for a moment to take in the mare's reaction before she continued. "I was young, too young maybe, at the time to fully understand my responsibility to the Inlet. I expected things I shouldn't and in return, got only disappointment. Ironclad and I respect each other....but the romance part of it is slower coming. The mare who came here....the blue roan who called for him. She was his first love."

Medusa stopped there for now, wondering if that would be enough for Arael to go on, thought she wouldn't mind explaining more if necessary. It was somehow relieving to unload a little bit of the emotional baggage, and the kind palomino mare was a good listener.
