Desert

The Desert was full of sadness once again and Akello didn't know what to do about it. He felt so helpless when he looked at his father and knew his heart was hurting, both from losing Berit and then Carbon right along with her. Maybe not to death, but to the Lagoon, just the same. Akello knew his brother would be just fine. He was more worried about the breaking of his father's heart. How much more loss could Cain take?

The good news was that the Desert was still growing, despite everything. He noticed his father brought home a new mare. This gave the bay dun stallion some hope. If his father was still searching for herd members then he wasn't completely lost. The mare seemed to lift his father's spirits so Akello left them to their own company. He was trying to help out by watching over the rest of the herd. They seemed so quiet, but he knew that was usually just the pre-cursor to something bad. Well, not while he was around. Akello gave a stomp of his hoof in the sand as he trotted along. He wouldn't allow it.

When young Kara gave a squeal out of nowhere, Akello snorted and turned on his heels, charging over the dunes to see what the matter was. Seeing the unfamiliar stallion, he paused, sniffing the air. While he didn't know the stallion personally, he'd seen him with his father a few weeks back and they seemed to be on friendly terms. The young stallion even smelled of the Desert. A herd member then. Young Kara just probably got spooked cause she didn't know him. Giving a small smirk, Akello took it as his cue to introduce himself and trotted down the dunes toward the other. As he got closer, he dipped his head to show he meant no harm and gave a smile.
