We now have our own dedicated justgiving site (http://www.justgiving.com/fusiliersaidsociety), which you can use to help raise money for your cause. If you let RHQ (Asst Regt Sec) know the specific cause you are raising money for, it will be directed to the correct fund. Hi All,

Former Soviet Military Base in Bornem Sulinowo, Poland.

I propose to visit in August of this year the once "closed city" of Bornem Sulinowo, Danusia. Should it prove interesting I will publish a short summary on my return to Wroclaw.

I'm sure it will be of interest to colleagues who served in BAOR and West Berlin during the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s.
Bornem Sulinowo is a city associated mainly with the presence of Soviet troops because from 1945 to 1992 a Soviet military base operated here and the place was excluded from the Polish administration [hence the term closed city]. Currently, it is one of the youngest cities in Poland, as it received city rights in 1993, after passing to the Polish administration.
Prior to the occupation of the base by Soviet units, a German base existed. A training ground was established, where, among other things, Afrika Korps units commanded by General Rommel (the second Afrika Korps training ground in the territory of present-day Poland was the Błędowska Desert.

There is a lot to see and I propose in the BAOR chapter of my book to include 'Enemy Forces and Threats' we faced with little knowledge of what we as soldiers faced! Les
