When did the "full-blown" lottery start in Connecticut? I lived in Fairfield for 20 years in the 60s and 70s and only remember scratch offs available in the early to mid-70s.
I've always maintained the lottery killed jai-alai. No longer did someone have to drive for up to an hour or so just to gamble, then pay to enter the building, perhaps buy a program to bet their favorite numbers from 1-8, vs/ driving to a gas station a couple minutes away and be able to pick any number(s) you like.
The strike only enhanced the death of jai-alai and put the final dagger in it. Replies:
