The Tournaments I have been calling Jai Alive are actually under the sponsorship of Jai Alai World Tour
An Article appeared in Hitza confirming the schedule and selected players in the JAWT Summer Tournaments. The original language is Basque so I have taken the liberty to Google translate it into English. The original can be found at Jai Alai News Facebook. Jai Alai World Tour and JANF are both linked to from my Summer Partido Blog page. JANF will be the headquarters web site of this tour. From there you can link to player information, results, match articles, and player standings.
Note especially the last paragraph, which talks of an agreement between Jai Alai World Tour and Xistera Kluba, the main amateur organization in Hegoalde--South Basque--France. Such cooperation between the leading amateur organizations in Iparralde--France--North (of which Eric Irastorza has been one of the main participants as Coach of the Amateur Iparralde players), has been going on for the last year or two.
What it all means, in my opinion, is that for now, whatever the future of the game in the US may be, the future of the game is in good hands in the Basque Country. And that is a very good thing.
The Jai Alai World Tour circuit started last weekend in Markina-Xemein , and in October, the final will be played at the Jai Alai in Gernika-Lumo. This final phase will be played on October 23 and 25. The individual champion will be decided in Berriatua in December.
It was presented yesterday in Bilbao. The Grand Slams of Gernika-Lumo and Hondarribia are the main events of this year. They will compete in the first from July 24 to August 16. The Gernika Jai Alai Grand Slam will be played on July 24 and 31 and on August 7, 14 and 16 at the Cesta Punta Cathedral . Taking his place, they will play Hondarribia from September 17th to October 15th.
Several other dates were also announced at yesterday’s appearance. The Masters of Mutriku will compete from 22 to 24 July, and the Masters of Lekeitio on 22 and 29 August and 4 September. They also announced that they are also negotiating to play in Zumaia, San Sebastián and Barcelona, and that on July 24 they will compete in a challenge between northern punters and southerners in Leitza.
Leading participants in the aforementioned tournaments and tournaments will be performing for another year. The strikers include Diego Beaskoetxea and Xabier Barandika from Gernika, Alex Hormaetxea from Bermeo, Aritz Erkiaga from Ispaster, Jokin Arbe from Markina-Xemein and Iñaki Osa Goikoetxea from Zumaia. Unai Lekerika from Gernika, Ibon Aldazabal from Berriatua, Imanol Lopez from Zumaia, Nicolas Etcheto from Bidart and Julen del Rio from Vitoria-Gasteiz will be among the defenders .
The ABEE (temporary business association), made up of the World Pelota Council and Gernika Jai Alai and Jai Alive , has reached a three-year agreement . The contract has been signed with the aim of "ensuring stability". In fact, so far they have been renewing the agreement year after year.
On the other hand, they are about to reach an agreement with the Xister clubs; they want to do an Inter Jai tournament with future pelota players, and the best of them would jump to the Jai Alai World Tour circuit next year.
