Stay wild, Moon Child

She walked in moon dust,
but stars were sprinkled in her hair

Her story was truly a silly one wasn’t it? Perhaps one she told her girl’s a time or two to watch their eyes widen in innocent wonder, not at all detecting the lie within their mother’s voice. She had kept a fair face in front of them all that she was sure they had no idea of the brokenness their mother felt, feelings of her own heart sending her into such a state of confusion that in the end it made her flee the place she called home. Solace and peace is what she sought, even just for a while, but this lone mare had called to her in her own silent way and Feray would have been heartless not to come.

At least the mare found her story to be just as outrageous as Feray felt about it as soon as it had left her mouth, the words that leave her giving feray time to truly ponder over them, a gentle hum leaving her in response. “You’ve got me there,” she admits, dipping her head to the water’s that swirl around her submerged hooves, glancing her reflection in the ripples and the sad eyes of blue and brown that stare back at her, “but the oceans are endless are they not? The water’s are sucked back into the clouds for the days that even mother earth has to cry for her children, another endless cycle but it keeps the world at a balance.” The mare must think her crazy now, with her daydreamy voice and far away eyes, but Feray had never been one to wonder or worry on how the world saw her. They either loved her or they didn’t.

“It is not a crime to hold your hurt within,” Feray was trying to pick and choose her words carefully, treading a fine line that could lead to the mare taking her leave of this entire situation when Feray desperately wanted to help her, even if she didn’t know how. “It hurts now, because we bottle it up and hold it dear, for even in the heartbreak we can still find those bits of joy and happiness swimming within but it can’t last forever,” her voice sounds wistful, of her own bottled up emotions that were beginning to crack open and trickle out into the water, yet as she lifts her face to look over at the dark mare there is still a smile playing on her lips while her eyes shine with moisture; but was she crying for herself in this moment or for her companion?

“If you do not give, then what is there to take?”, Feray nods to herself, angling her head while pondering over the word’s, “if not your soul, then your body until the winds carry you away. Maybe the answer is to let go and live for yourself for once, release your grief and take in that first true breath and just let go.”. Maybe her words weren’t only just for her companion but for her own benefit as well. Facing forward again, head tilting up to watch the rapids of the walls cascade downwards, Feray takes in that shaky first breath, the fresh crisp smell of autumn in the air flooding her senses and she feels free.
