I didn't do it to hurt you, she whispers. He knows. He knows from the way that she loves their daughter that she would not have put her at risk intentionally. But it doesn't make the hurt less, or the confusion clear.

It was right of her to move on without him. And it was right of her to make him face his mistakes and to see the consequences of what happened when he was gone. He deserved that pain and so much more. Yet still, even his resolve to weather the pain that he deserves falters under the weight of Seri's command. If there was anyone in the world he would give his soul to earn forgiveness from, it was her. But she turned from him, and he watched brokenly as she fled.

He feels too numb to cry; too numb to feel. Where his heart had once sat in his chest, now existed a sinkhole that dropped so deep he couldn't see the bottom. He's frozen in time, unable to look away from where she had disappeared into the trees. He can feel Aallotar and the colt moving, but he can't tear himself away, the grief a giant knot in his throat that he can't swallow.

I have to heal from what you did to me Fearghas, Ally says, securing the final nail in his coffin without hesitation. He flinches, his gaze darting to the ground that she is standing upon, but says nothing. He only nods, accepting the destruction that he had wrought upon their lives. Perhaps later, when the pain of his daughter's rejection wears off, he will remember the rest of what Ally says, or will connect the dots between her commentary and her direction.

As it is, he can see nothing beyond an endless mountain of pain.
