Don’t worry, I’m okay

Espen
gypsy cross – 15.1 – bay sabino – 3yrs - frost

The little mare’s reaction was surprising. For such a size difference (he could have rightly just run her over) she bravely stood her ground. Even going so far as to yell at him. Not that he didn’t deserve it. Espen’s expression of shock and fear quickly turned inward, erasing itself from his white face as her words settled into his mind. Daft. Dumb. Though her accent made it hard to decipher just what she was saying, he heard those words as if she had slapped him in the face with them. Espen was sure that bampot was closely related and just as much of an insult.

Espen looked on at the woman as she waited for what he would do after giving such an ultimatum. He hadn’t even spoken a word, and already she knew exactly what he was. What they had called him since the day he had tried to learn how to speak. He supposed he owed the mare an apology, no matter what she called him, since he had rudely interrupted her day with his mistake. But the explanation felt dead on his already hard to wield tongue. The painted brute doubted anything he had to say, or attempt to say, would make any difference. Not that he was looking for a friend.

The stallion’s entire body tensed, drawing himself up as if to steel himself for another attempt on an attack. “Sor-ry.” He managed to push out from between his pink lips. Espen’s voice was a deep, growling baritone that sounded like thunder in the sky. “I mi-ssss-take.” Irritation was bright in his eyes the moment he had messed up, his ears lacing back into his thick mane. His already tense skin quivered and he tossed his head away with his temper. The true mistake was attempting to talk. To show her he really was as stupid as she had called him.

He was sure that she would turn to him with laughter spilling from her lips. To further berate him for both his mistake and his failed attempt to talk. Espen had sooner jump back into the depths of the sea, hoping they would take him this time, than to have someone else laugh at him. The stallion had suffered it long enough. So, he quickly turned away, hoping that he could escape the tiny, loud mare before she could inflict anymore damage than she already had.
