Swimming is not an activity she thought she'd have ever needed to get used to, and yet here she was, once again a babe at sea. The weather had been ideal and she'd been feeling impulsive. Besides, she was in the prime of her life, if ever there was a time to be recklessly curios it was now. Besides, having walked to land's end at the tip of the Lagoon, it'd seemed only logical to take the plunge.
The first thing she'd noticed upon her arrival to the island was the fact that the sand....didn't seem confined to just the beach. In fact, the entire island seemed to be nothing more than shifting dunes, blowing wind, and the occasional oasis with accompanying palms and grasses, a conclusion she draws after having spent the better part of a day and night trudging across it.
In the same way her bulky build was a boon in her more favorite alpine climates, it's a burden here in this desert wasteland. The sand sinks out from under her weight and the wind stings when it blows hot and dry across her skin. She is sweaty, tired, and irritated by the time she finds another oasis and if she wasn't well aware what a precious resource water was she'd flung herself full body into what amounted to a small pond. As it is, she plunges her nose deep into a luke-warm water and drinks three deep gulps before she even realizes she's not alone. Water dripping from her chin and lips, she turns to Innayat and offers the other mare a completely expressionless greeting.
"I was beginning to think I'd swam all the way out here just to sweat and get sand in my eyes."
Later, Fei will feel bad about how unfriendly she was being but in that moment she was irritated, sweaty, and above all still thirsty, head dropping once more to drink, this time in slightly more measured sips.
