Meadow

the ace in exile

Viđarr knows what it is to be lonely. It had filled him up, grabbed his insides and held them tight since he’d left home. Though he did his best to live without regrets, he’s beginning to wonder if this was a mistake. Should he have come at all? Was coming out this far a mistake? Yeah. Being on his own for so long was gnawing at Viđarr’s insides.

Maybe he’d find a home… that would be ideal. He’d been sticking to the crossing, and the nearby ruins. It was maybe partially his fault that he hadn’t found a home. Still, it didn’t matter. Seeing everyone pass through, onto better things, it left him feeling more than lost. He’s raw, a lost soul in essence. Raw to the core. Viđarr has been haunting the meadow, and would continue to.

There is food here, though he’s thinner than he was when he arrived. He hasn’t done too badly, all things considered. Surviving the winter alone? A feat. Viđarr is self reliant to the core, but maybe it’s hurting him even more to not have someone else to care for. Someone to give his existence structure. He was a guardian by nature, so this meadow left him feeling terrible and empty.

Snow was still on the ground, but it was starting to thin. It crushed beneath his hooves, as it had refrozen many times over. Spring would be here soon. The days were grey, but daylight was sticking around for longer. Viđarr didn’t know how to feel… maybe he’d drift on. The life of a drifter did not suit him, but it felt like the only option for now. Idly, he scraped at the crust of snow to unearth a bit of grass. He’d be okay, but he’s sad.

There’s someone else out here, he knows that. There’s always another someone. This is the meadow. No, this is a someone that haunts like he does. Someone who watches everyone else come and go, and never leaves herself. Viđarr can smell her. At least with her out here, he feels… less alone. What would he say? What should he say? From his spot in the grass, a ways away, he simply lets go a soft call. Would she ignore him? Viđarr wouldn’t blame her. Suddenly he’s uncomfortable. Awkward, maybe? It had been too long.
