In the seasons change, the stallion no longer wished to be among the cold. The draw to the warmer, white sand beaches called to him and Tyr saw no reason to deny. He had still not made good on the vacation he had pried from the Ridge Queen, and there was nothing standing in his way of taking it now. Winter was often a quiet season, why not spend it relaxing before the start of Spring and fresh life? Though he had no worries of either mare succumbing to the stress, or delivery a child; it often marked the shift of much more than that.
The large stallion had watched the two red mares, and his dunalino son move through the Lagoon ahead of him until they had completely disappeared. He did not hurry his steps however, keeping them slow not to wear out Grizel who trailed along at his side. Even so, he allowed her to rest at the water’s edge, his eyes on the distant outline of Atlantis, grateful it wasn’t too far of a swim. Only when it seemed the girl was as prepared as she was going to get, did they plunge into the cold waters and make the swim.
It was one of the longest swims Tyr had ever taken to get to Atlantis. He had kept Grizel in his current, doing his best not to wear out the girl. But even as they stumbled onto the beach, he felt as if he pushed her too hard. Perhaps it had been a mistake? Reaching his nose down, he brushed it along her thick neck as she rested just out of the waves, before he swept his eyes across the open expanse of the beach. Somehow, he had made it ashore between Kvothe and Kiraz, who had already drawn company. Every instinct in him wanted to rush over and drive the strangely painted stallion away from his mare, but he couldn’t leave Grizel, and this was supposed to be a peaceful visit.
Instead, Tyr let out a nicker to all of them. Calling out to Faolain to announce his arrival. To the mares, if they had not seen them wash ashore, and to the younger stallion, to make sure he was aware that these women were not alone.
