Sorry, I'm the new guy

Feelings so mixed and uncomfortable clawed their way through the young stallion. Mostly confusion: not understanding what had happened for his family to suddenly break apart as they had done. Wasn’t his father supposed to be the most powerful? Yet, he had gone so easily and without a fight. His mother who had been so vigilant in her protection over him, always there throughout his entirety of life, was now gone too. It left a gapping hole and the young spotted boy had no idea how to fix it. Only one certainty remained, and he followed her now, having no other direction to take.

Medusa.

His father’s chosen queen seemed to know exactly where to go. The painted mare was always so full of confidence. So had his mother, though he wasn’t sure where either mare had gained it from, or where he was supposed to find it. Perhaps Medusa could tell him once he had caught up? The idea that she would turn him away hadn’t even entered his mind. They had been a herd, a family, so why wouldn’t she want him?

Just as he was able to see more than their tracks, the outline of their bodies up ahead, another was quick to join them. The little red horse made his heart quicken, afraid that she had just attacked his Queen, which caused him to lurch (first stumbling from the quickness and from his feet having a growth spurt) into a canter to join them. Only the affectionate sounding growl caused him to pull up short of them, his ears forward and his eyes wide in the face of all this unfamiliarity. Shyly, he took the last few strides to walk over to Medusa’s other side and peek around his Queen at the stranger who seemed preoccupied with Revna.
