legends never die

Recruiting for the Peak was something that the mare did by nature. Their numbers would wax and wane as the moon did, and Bane would do what she could to bring them up. She was more than happy to offer safe rest for those who needed it. Even if Bagheera didn’t want to stay, she would at least know that the Peak would welcome anyone who needed with open arms. Anyone woman who needed would be safe with them.

It would be warm there, in the spring. The thaw would come. Things would be okay. The long nights would shorten, and Bane would be okay. Everything would be okay, right? Right. It would be okay in the end, and if things weren’t okay then… they weren’t the end. Maybe. The living legend didn’t know anymore. Bane wouldn’t get too wrapped up in that.

Willing to try, the champagne mare smiles to herself. “I would be happy to show you the way,” Bane nods once. Bagheera. She would commit the name to memory. Now that Bane had returned to the Islands, she would do her best to forge new connections. So much had happened when she was gone, and there was much catching up to do.

With confident, even steps, Bane leads the way toward the Peak. It wasn’t a bad walk, and they would warm quickly from the activity. “I think the way we govern is different than the usual herd, at least around here.” Well, may as well start in on the speech. “From what I know, we’re one of the only groups that votes on our leaders. We have three factions-- the warriors do what you’d expect, the codebreakers are our sneaky sort, and the politicians do both.” Bane was talking… a lot more than she was accustomed to. That was probably okay, at least for now. The Peak was different, and maybe she’d need to explain that. “At the start of the summer, we gather together and vote on who will lead each faction for the coming year.”

She’s happy to have someone to walk and talk with. It made her travels less lonely. Bane had been so lonely for so long, and maybe it would be nice to break that. For the first time in recent memory, the pit of dread was fading from her stomach. Yes, this would do quite nicely.
