will you come to find me?

Finch

Although she was not given an audible reply, Finch could hear the shifting of the sand and the soft groan he made as he stood. Waiting patiently, she could not help but smile as he stepped into her line of sight, none to surprisingly covered in sand and a few leaves. The way he placed his muzzle against his throat, and the warmth of his breath as it tickled her skin nearly made Finch giggle. Somehow, she refrained, but the smile was clear as lines crinkled at the edges of her briefly closed eyes. “That tickles” she playfully protested, though only pulled away enough so that she could turn her head and brush the sand from the side of his face with her gentle pink lips before plucking one of the leaves from his hair. “Someone is bound to think you are homeless.” Finch teased, though her eyes glittered with something more. A warmth she was beginning to feel that she didn’t fully understand.

Avoidance, for now, was the only answer Finch knew how to give. Pulling away, the young mare began to walk off towards the watering hole. But not without swishing her tail at the last minute so that the strands of her golden whip were able to brush along his chest. Later in life, Finch would learn the power that would have against stallions, and what might lead to her own demise. But for now, it was only playful banter, as her mind was too innocent for anything beyond that.

As the young mare reached the water, she lowered her head after carefully peering around to slack her thirst. But her mind wandered; leaping from one thought to the other and only when she lifted her head had it finally settled on one. Still, she chewed it over while the crystalline droplets fell from her whiskered lips. Finch wasn’t sure what kept her from blurting out her thoughts, never had she kept anything from Hades. Yet, as she turned her head to look at him, she suddenly felt shy. Maybe it was a stupid idea?

“I… um….” She started, but then turned her head away. Dropping it some as she looked down to her front hooves while shuffling the sand with one toe. “I think I want to go exploring again.” Finch admitted, but that wasn’t the part that caused her such hesitation. It had been her that had wanted to return so quickly, why would he not want to go exploring again so quickly? “I was thinking…. Maybe Tinuvel this time?”
