You are capable and enthusiastic, but still young, and it shows in your words.

For my own reasons I'm not certain that I can step aside quietly for your father... or that he is ready for the burdens and benefits of my position. But as far as Generals go, I could search for a second lifetime and never find another that compares. From the first moment I returned to the Lagoon-- a prisoner-- I have seen his strength tried endlessly, and his loyalty to his brothers tested. Neither have ever been found wanting.

That said, your father's will might be iron, but he is no machine. His respite on Atlantis was taken not only with my blessing, but also with my encouragement.

I will hear no further slanders on his commitment.

You have been a powerful and devoted General in both your past and your present, but it's the Lagoon's future the concerns me most. We have never talked about that subject, and with time running short-- in more ways than one-- it is time we do. Until then, I will remain a candidate for our brothers' votes.

Please know that this decision is nothing personal. After everything that our brothers have seen and suffered, surely you will understand my doubts... and why there will can be no peace for me until I am certain.
