 Roland stumbles through the pitch blackness, his hooves scrape across the hardened earth and branches scrape across his broad back. A grimace contorts his lips as the branch drags across his hide. And yet he does not slow, he pushes and shoulders his way through the dense forest. He had to escape. To escape the fear that clinches his throat shut and to escape the uncertainty that now snakes itself around his life. He is a stranger in an even stranger land. "Roland," the voice whispers. His heart stutters in his chest. How is it possible that she is here? His footsteps slow and his seeing eye widens. No. Hilda is dead. She was taken from him. They took her. They took everything from him. "Go away," he grumbles "You are dead." he whispers into the starless night. He tilts his thick crown toward the broody heavens, a flash of lightning across the dark sky warns of the impending storm. It rumbles and growls just beyond. He shoulders his way through the last of the branches and into a quaint clearing. His ears rotate cautiously atop his crown and his seeing eye squints against the darkness. The faint trickle of water over rocks draws his attention and immediately he is drawn across the clearing and to the water's edge. He dips his whiskered lips to the water's surface and drinks until his thirst has been quenched. He lifts his lips from the water's surface and water dribbles from his whiskered chin, back into the gurgling creek. The snap of branches draws his attention and his ears disappear beneath his matted onyx mane. "Who is ther'?" he grunts lowly.
